It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William (Bill) Walter on November 23, 2007 at the age of 86.

Bill is survived by Elsie, his wife and partner of 52 years, his four children: Lynne (Lanny) Scramstad, Wendy (Ken) Harris, Doug Walter and Sharon (Murray) Donchi. He also leaves his grandchildren: Shelly (Jordie), Jason, Rob (Sheena), Chris (Amanda), Amanda, Kalaya, Ben, Jennifer, Catherine and Amanda; great-grandchildren Clayton, Grace, Andrew, Taylor, Cole and Mason. Best friend John Walter and his wife Laura, as well as sisters-in-law Dorthea, Hazel and Madge, and many cousins, nieces and nephews and friends who will miss him dearly.

Bill was born in Edmonton, AB and lived in Ellerslie where he farmed and drove school bus. He was also a proud lifetime member of the Avon Glen Masons Lodge #170. Bill and Elsie moved with their family to BC in 1969 and settled in McLure where he started a campsite and farmed.

Bill was a generous man who was always willing to help someone in need. He and his friend Earl Carl were instrumental in starting and building the McLure Fire Hall, something he was very proud of. He loved to socialize with friends and family, and always had a story to tell. He is also well known for his “collections” of pretty much anything! He enjoyed traveling, camping & hunting, playing cards, but he especially loved to go fishing.

His family would like to thank the staff at the Barriere D&T Centre and Dr. Jack, and especially the staff at Ponderosa Lodge for their kindness and support of Bill, but also for us, his family.

A Celebration of Bill’s life was held on December 1, 2007 in Barriere.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

Good-bye for now Bill – Happy Fishing.
