News of Jesus’ works at the Passover season held in Jerusalem—His cleansing the temple, and declaration of being the long looked for Messiah—reached Galilee bringing hope to those suffering and in distress.

In Capernaum, a Jewish nobleman who worked in the king’s service had a son suffering from a terminal illness. Hearing about Jesus he decided to go to Him for help. He pressed through the crowds surrounding Jesus until he came into His presence. Seeing a man in simple clothing, worn and dusty from travel, he began to doubt if this Man could heal his son.

Before the officer had left his home, the Holy Spirit revealed to Jesus the sadness in the home, and that the father of the dying son had doubts as to whether He could heal his son, and that if his son wasn’t healed, he would not believe Christ was the Messiah.

The officer presented his request, anxiously waiting to see what Jesus would do. He was surprised to hear Jesus say, “Except you see signs and wonders, you won’t believe.”

Like a flash of light, the nobleman realized He was in the presence of a diety who could read his heart. His doubting could cost the life of his son, and he cried in agony, “Sir, come down or my child will die!”

Jesus, who never draws away from the person who comes to Him with their great need, told the nobleman, “Go your way, your son is alive.”

Jesus desires us to fully trust His love for us, seeking Him because of who He is, not just for what we can get. So come, ask, believe, receive and thank Him for His blessing. He is waiting to give you “exceedingly, abundantly, more than you could ask or think” Ephesians 3:20.
