Pot’s illegality has ideological roots

Regarding the recent raid and closure of the Canadian Safe Cannabis Society by the forces of law and order

To the editor;

Regarding the recent raid and closure of the Canadian Safe Cannabis Society by the forces of law and order, here are some thoughts from a longtime resident, citizen and taxpayer of Kamloops:

Last year, I spent six months on chemotherapy following cancer surgery.

It seems to have worked and I am deeply grateful for the treatment.

But, to say it was a miserable experience is an understatement.

In my, case no medication worked to counter the negative effects of the chemicals.

The only thing that made it endurable at all was cannabis.

I wouldn’t wish chemo or the need for it on any of the forces of righteousness who have so grimly marshalled the full weight of law against the supposed “evil” of cannabis.

However, I would ask that they try to give some consideration to those cannabis can help.

This is an ideological conflict, not a scientific or rational one.

Science and rationality won hands-down years ago.

Dictionaries define compassion as “a sympathy and concern for the sufferings and misfortunes of others.”

One day, any of the forces of righteousness might need a little of that compassion.

Give it a rest, folks.
