To the editor;
I just want to say that I am extremely proud of our little town. For a community with a population under 2000 people we have some pretty amazing stuff going on.
The North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo is one of the largest agricultural fairs in the Interior of B.C., and the Bullarama is theNorth Thompson Agriplex is the largest New Years Eve party in the Kamloops region.
In the last couple of weeks we have hosted a band who’s tour dates after us included the Williams Lake Stampede, Calgary Stampede and the Merritt Mountain Music Festival, and we managed to do that as a by-donation event.
The very next day the good people of the Barriere Legion put on a free barbecue for our community.
Construction of our splash pad is under way, and the Lion’s Club have built a structure in the park for picnics and barbecues.
There is so much more to mention but my fingers are getting tired of typing.
I think that’s pretty darn impressive for a little community like ours to be able to do all of this stuff, and I know that none of it could be done without thousands of volunteer hours from our community members.
I think we should stand back and take a look at the beautiful community that we have built and we should be proud!
If you have ways of making our little town better, and you want to help out, please feel free to attend a District of Barriere council meeting, contact the North Thompson Volunteer Center (we are always looking for help), join the Fall Fair Association, or the Legion, or the Lions Club, or any of the other non-profit organizations in town.
And what about all the work our volunteer firefighters and our first class first responders and search and rescue people do?
The success of our Alzheimer’s walk and Terry Fox run are astounding! If you compare our numbers percentage wise to bigger city’s we kick some major butt!
