Provincial Winter Fair to become BC Ag Expo in Barriere

Mark the dates of Sept. 22 - 25, 2017, on your calendar to attend the BC Ag Expo

To the editor;

Mark the dates of Sept. 22 - 25, 2017, on your calendar to attend our BC Ag Expo.  Admission will be free for the duration of the fair, and families can enjoy displays, supervised hands-on with the animals, food vendors and educational displays, this year having a special section featuring 150 years of agriculture.

The British Columbia Agricultural Exposition Society (BCAES) will be hosting its annual fair at the North Thompson Fall Fair grounds in Barriere.  Over 200 4-H and Open contributors will be attending the BC Ag Expo to participate in classes featuring beef, sheep, horse, rabbit, goat and photography divisions.  New classes have been added for an exciting weekend of competition for the competitors and spectators.

Friday offers the Beef Female Show, sheep have the Open Youth Showmanship Championship and horse 4-H level evaluations.  The 4-H rabbit, goat, dog and photography competitions also get underway.  Friday night the exciting Fred Nichol, Twemlow and Boundary Dash events take place as 4-H members compete for the chance to win next year’s project in all the 4-H divisions.

Saturday and Sunday provide full days of competitions with many championship classes in all divisions.

The weekend winds up with a fabulous roast beef meal catered by Betty Peters, and awards presentations followed by a dance.  4-hers can once again look forward to fun line dance competitions during the dance.

Monday morning after the Buyer’s Breakfast the auction of beef, lamb, goat, photography and sewing projects will get underway.  This is the final part of the 4-H and Open contributor’s year of hard work with their market projects, and the opportunity to fill up ones freezer with beef, lamb, or goat, or buy a beautiful photo or quilt.

The BCAES is committed to encouraging and promoting agriculture, community development and the education and development of youth through the 4-H program.  BCAES volunteers are committed to ensuring all resources raised go back into the event for the benefit of the youth it serves.

Entry forms can be requested for all divisions at secretary@bcagexpo.ca.  Or visit our website at: bcagexpo.ca.
