And the thunder roared during ladies night golf

Ladies Tuesday Night Golf at Chinook Cove Golf Resort report

By Leslie Stirling

The thunder crashed and the rain came down hard at about 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21, but by our tee time of 4:20 p.m. the grass had dried, the sky was blue and the weather perfect for a game of golf.  The threat of more rain kept some fair weather golfers home but 31 ladies took a chance and had a most enjoyable outing.  There was one particular group that was a bit rowdy as they celebrated a decade birthday for Doreen Landry.  I won’t tell you which decade.  You will have to stop at Sam’s and ask her yourself.  Thanks to Chris LeCerf for the birthday cake and cupcakes.

Flight 1 (Interior Savings Credit Union) winners were Donna Salle (low gross - 43) and Trudy Forsythe (low net).  Flight 2 (Armour Mountain Office Supplies) winners were Deb Rainer (low gross - 49) and Audrey Rilcoe (low net).  Flight 3 (EBL Ventures) winners were Linda Ransome (low gross 56) and Sharon Spooner (low net).  Flight 4 low gross winner was Barb Smith with a score of 65 and second low gross winner was Joanne Lyle with a score of 67.  Flight 4 was sponsored by Ron Wallace Trucking.  Donna Salle and Leslie Stirling split the deuce pot while Cindy Leibel had the birdie pot all to herself.  Donna Salle made a most impressive chip in out of the sand on Hole 6 to score her deuce.

This week was one of long drives and winners were Deb Winiski (Pottery by Ramona), Rose Seymour (Rainer Custom Cutting), Trudy Forsythe (Sam’s Pizza), Marion Wallace (Station House Restaurant and AG Foods), Brenda Oakland (Val Bella Studio), Sharon Spooner (Barriere Massage) and Marnie Pfeifer (Barriere A & W).  Long Putts earned Leslie Stirling (Blue Jar Coffee Bar & Bistro) and Marian Wallace (Knights Inn) prizes while Leslie also took home the Barriere Timber Mart prize for KP in 2 on Hole 7.  Donna Salle came closest to the tree on 7 (Crystlee’s Hair Design).  Deb Legaree landed closest to the sand trap on hole 8 to win the Country Store Antique prize.  Linda Ransome landed closest to the 150 marker on Hole 9 and took home a gift certificate from Estylo Hair Design.    KPs on Hole 4 went to Donna Salle (Carl’s Market Garden), Leslie Stirling (Campbell & Co.), and Joanne Lyle (HUB International/Chad Belbin).

Donna Salle and Deb Rainer tied for the least number of putts used and received prizes from Royal LePage/Westwin Realty/Cindy Leibel and Stamer Logging.  Rose Seymour used her putter a generous 27 times to win the gift certificate from our newest sponsor Gift ‘n Gab.

And every once in a while I like to thank our other sponsors who don’t get mentioned every week.  Thanks to our the Hole In One sponsors - local artist Bob Stirling, Barriere Auto Parts and Alpine Meadow Resort; our Door Prize sponsor Chinook Cove Golf and our advertising sponsor the Star/Journal.

Don’t forget to sign up and book your carts early for our Christmas in July  night on July 26th.  If you don’t have a team but would like to golf give Deb Rainer (250-672-9407)or Leslie Stirling (250-672-5706) a call and we will try to match you up with three other ladies.

On a closing note, I recently learned of a couple of PGA rule changes for seniors.  Rule 8.k.9( S) now states “Advertisements claim that golf scores can be improved by purchasing new golf equipment.  Since this is financially impractical for many senior golfers, one-half stroke per hole may be subtracted for using old outdated equipment”.  Please advise all your senior friends of these important rule changes.
