Horse and rider warm up before taking their turn at the obstacle course.

June 26 and July 10 folks may have noticed some extra activity at the Barriere & District Riding Club grounds. We are hosting a series of three shows this summer, the final one being held Aug. 14. The shows are BC Heritage Finals Qualifiers and also Schooling Show format with Green and Novice classes so that any age or experience level can get involved.

The BC General Performance program is a provincial program designed to preserve the versatility horse and rider. To encourage participation in General Performance disciplines across British Columbia by supporting community horse clubs, generating interest in driving, Western and English style of riding and encouraging riders, drivers, coaches and breeders to achieve success at competitions at an introductory or grassroots level. (www.hcbc.com) The BC Heritage Finals creates a goal oriented program, with riders/drivers having to qualify at two or more BC Heritage Qualifying shows to compete in the finals, held every July.

B&DRC’s first show, June 26 had 19 entries, the second July 10 had 29! The great response came from not only local (Barriere/Little Fort/Clearwater) participants, but from 100 Mile, Tappen, Kamloops and Pritchard as well. Both shows were judged by Kimberly Westgate of Kamloops, who did a wonderful job and worked hard to help the riders improve their skills. There were lots of smiles and laughs, a great day for everyone involved.
