The Thompson-Okanagan Zone 2 Netball Team at the BC Winter Games in Kamloops last weekend consisted of four grade 8 girls from Barriere and five grade 10-12 players from other areas.

The Barriere players were; Hannah Kershaw, Izzy Morin, Becky Bradly, and Dezi Keller.

Coach Kim Fennell from Barriere says, “We played Fraser Valley A, Fraser Valley B, Fraser River and Cariboo in the opening round to finish with a 1-3 record.”

Fennell commented that in a very short time the team had to get used to players that they hadn’t previously played with.

“The team took a few games to gel then really came alive,” said Fennell, “We placed fourth going into the medal round and faced Cariboo in the bronze medal game. We were tied after the first quarter, down by five after the second, then down by 10 after the third. We kept strong in the fourth quarter and ended the game losing by 10 points.”

The coach noted that Izzy Morin, one of the two team shooters, scored most of the team’s goals and was consistent with her shooting.

“Hannah Kershaw and Dezi Keller were our two main defensive players who improved with every minute of play,” said Fennell, “Becky Bradley played on the wing and was a driving force in the centre court.”

Fennell as stated, “I am very proud of these girls for their effort, attitude, and ability to adapt quickly to instruction and strategy this past weekend.”

The regular netball season will start in Barriere just after spring break.
