Barriere Senior Girls Basketball Team finishes sixth at Provincials in Duncan

The Barriere Secondary Senior Girls Basketball Team finished sixth the weekend of Mar. 8 - 12, at the A Senior Girls Basketball Provincials hosted in Duncan, B.C.

In their first round match up the girls defeated Bulkley Valley Christian School 53-48.  The team was led by Tyra Noble who scored 18 points and Hannah Feller who added 14 points.

In their second game of the tournament the girls faced a competitive squad from Mulgraves Secondary, and unfortunately were defeated 50-28.  In this game Hannah Feller led the way with 14 points.

The girls bounced back in their third game of the tournament and defeated Cedar Christian School from Prince George 66-30.   Again Tyra Noble led Barriere with 17 points, Hannah Feller chipped in 16 points and Vanessa Balatti added another 10.

In their final game of the season, the girls lost a hard fought battle to Keremeos in a fight for fifth and sixth place.  The girls were defeated in the final minutes of the game 50-49.

This was a rematch of the Okanagan Final and the girls worked incredibly hard in this game.  Breann Fischer led the way with her tenacious defence and competitive spirit.

Congratulations to Breann Fischer, Tyra Noble, Vanessa Balatti and Hannah Feller for being honoured with Player of the Game Awards throughout the tournament.

The Barriere team says,  “A heartfelt thank you to the community of Barriere for all of the support we have received during the past year.

“Attending Provincials was a goal that was made last spring, and we have worked hard to achieve it.

“With that being said, we would not have been able to attend Provincials without all of the financial support we received from the community of Barriere.

“This was a once in a lifetime opportunity for many of our players and it has created memories that will last a lifetime.”
