The Barriere Cougars junior boys’ basketball team won two of three games at the annual Ashcroft tournament last weekend.

Coach Mac Carrie said morale remained high among the Grade 9 and 10 boys throughout the tournament, despite a difficult first game against Williams Lake on Jan. 13.

“The boys fought hard and showed a lot of character and stayed in the game for the majority of it but we ended up losing that game,” Carrie said. “Morale was high through it all. We have faced them in the past and knew what we were up against.”

The next day, the Cougars started strong, beating Pemberton Secondary. Later in the day, Barriere faced off against Hope Secondary. It was a tight game through the first three quarters, but the Cougars pulled ahead in the last quarter, Carrie said.

He said the junior boys are hardworking and continue to grow as a team. During the upcoming Jan. 21 weekend the junior boys will play their next tournament at Sa-Hali Secondary in Kamloops.
