Louis Creek resident Levi Kempter has made a video called Get Out and Ski, and is encouraging everyone to watch his 11 minute production. The video is full of fast moving action and is great entertainment. After watching it you‘ll know, one way or the other, if skiing is the outdoor sport for you.

“Skiing is one of my most favourite things to do in the winter months,” says Levi, “Luckily Sun Peaks has remained open during this time of COVID-19, and this has kept me from going crazy because I can’t do the things I normally do and I know others are feeling the same. That’s why I created this video. To show people in my community something that is still available in these crazy times, and to hopefully get them stoked about the awesome sport of skiing.”

Levi, a grade 12 student at Barriere Secondary, says creating the movie was a Capstone project for his Careers 12 class, a requirement for graduation.

“Yeah, I knew I had to do a project, and I thought I would do whatever,” said Levi, “But when I decided to do the ski movie it was actually a lot more fun than I originally thought it would be.

His whole family skis, with Levi has personally been enjoying the sport for the past eight years.

Levi tells the short movie project was filmed at Sun Peaks, with much appreciated assistance from his sister Grace, and brother Riley. There are numerous clips of Levi skiing down the slopes, skiing in fresh powder, landing some tricks, having a crash or two along the way, and showing what Levi calls “being fully stoked” when skiing on the mountain.

Many of the clips filmed by the person doing the skiing are most memorable. They give those watching the video the amazing feeling of actually being the skier, the quiet of the mountain only disturbed by the swish of fast moving skis.

Filming and putting the movie together was a big undertaking and took quite a few days to complete. Once it was finished, Levi’s final requirement for the project was to get the video out into the community, it can now be found on YouTube at https://youtu.be/QJ8YD-n2xGo

Showing plenty of enthusiasm for his short movie production, this enterprising teen is now encouraging others to check it out, then check out the sport of skiing first hand while the mountain at Sun Peaks is ready and waiting under its blanket of snow.

“We are very fortunate to have a ski resort this close to us,” said the teen, “We should be making good use of it.”

Is he happy with the results of his efforts?

“I’m super happy with it,” said Levi, “The purpose of the movie is to inspire both young and old in our community to get out and try the awesome sport of skiing. I think it does that.”
