Ladies are back on course

Ladies Tuesday Night Golf at Chinook Cove Golf Resort

By Leslie Stirling

Wow, somebody turned the heat up....high.  On June 28, I slathered on the sun-block, put on my golf sandals and hit the course with 30 other ladies who were willing to put up with a bit of heat to spend a few enjoyable hours with their friends.  As I was leaving the house Bob told me to have fun and I replied “I don’t want to have fun.  I want to golf well.”  Although I did manage to hit a few good shots, I mostly had a marvelous fun time with my golfing buddies, Donna and Debbie.

Flight 1 (Interior Savings Credit Union) winners were Brenda Oakland (low gross - 47) and Susan Newberry (low net).  Flight 2 (Royal LePage/Westwin Realty/Cindy Leibel) winners were Deb Legaree (low gross - 47) and Ilke Marais (low net).  Flight 3 (EBL Ventures) winners were Linda Ransome (low gross 52) and Susan Bondar (low net).  Flight 4 low gross winner was Jen Amos with a score of 57 and second low gross winner was Brenda Carl with a score of 63.  Flight 4 was sponsored by HUB International/Chad Belbin.  Kelly Vangenne won the deuce pot while Leslie Stirling took home the birdie pot.

KPs were few and far between with prizes going to Donna Salle (Carl’s Market Garden), Kelly Vangenne (Campbell & Co.) and Susan Newberry (Ron Wallace Trucking).  Prizes from Stamer Logging, MJB Lawyers and the Blue Jar Coffee Bar & Bistro were not claimed and were distributed by drawing names from a hat.

Long drive prizes were claimed by Babes Shanko (Rainer Custom Cutting), Irene Beeton (Sam’s Pizza) and Donna Salle (Knights Inn).  Brenda Oakland won the Country Store Antiques certificate for KP in 2 while Cindy Leibel took the prize from Station House Restaurant for KP in 3.  Long putts earned prizes for Leslie Stirling (Val Bella Studio), Betty Baillie (AG Foods), Cindy Leibel (Armour Mountain Office Supplies), Lindsay Arcand (Barriere A & W), Linda Ransome (Barriere Timber Mart), Brenda Carl (Crystlee’s Hair Design), Debbie Rainer (Estylo Hair Design) and Val Aylward (Pottery by Ramona).  Val also received the Barriere Massage certificate for most putts while Deb Legaree only used 11 putts for her round to win the Gift ‘n Gab certificate.

Don’t forget to sign up and book your carts early for our Christmas in July  night on July 26.  It is a four person Texas scramble...perfect for those new golfers.  Shot gun start is 5:30 p.m. followed by supper and prizes.  Price of $40 includes golf, turkey dinner and prizes.  If you don’t have a team but would like to golf give Deb Rainer (250-672-9407)or Leslie Stirling (250-672-5706) a call and we will try to match you up with three other ladies.

I had an opportunity to get some advice from a golf pro the other day and he told me that my only problem was that I was standing too close to the ball...after I had hit it.

Happy summer holidays to all the teachers and kids.  Hope to see you at the golf course.
