Ladies back on the greens

Ladies Night Golf Report from Chinook Cove Golf Resort by Leslie Stirling

Mother Nature has been teasing us.  First with some very warm days and then with some very windy and wet days.  But she really came through on Tuesday when 32 ladies turned out for the first Ladies’ Night of the season on Apr. 26.

Debbie Rainer worked hard over the winter lining up our sponsors and we were able to change to four flights instead of three.  Thank you to our new sponsors as well as the perennial sponsors who continue to support Ladies Golf.  A very special thank you to Barb and Carman Smith of HM Ranches.  I somehow managed to miss mentioning them when I was thanking all the other sponsors on Tuesday night.

Flight 1 sponsored by Interior Savings Credit Union is for those ladies with a handicap of 28 or less.  The low gross winner with a score of 44 was Karen Peterson and Trudy Forsythe won the low net with a score of 48 (34).  Flight 2 handicaps range from 29 to 35 and was sponsored this week by Cindy Leibel from Royal LePage Westwin Realty.  Low gross winner was Deb Legaree with a 49 and low net winner was Christina LeCerf with a 50 (35.5).  Flight 3 is for the folks with a handicap from 36 up and the sponsor this week was Stamer Logging.  Jeannie Webber scored a 56 to win low gross while Betty Baillie took the low net with a 57 (37.5).  Flight 4 is for the ladies with no handicap.  Anita Hill, golfing ladies’ night for the first time, scored a 56 to win the Sam’s Pizza certificate.  Donna Salle and Karen Peterson scored birdies and split that pot.

Long drives on Hole 1 earned prizes for Trudy Forsythe (AG Foods) and Leslie Stirling (Armour Mountain Office Supplies) while the winners on Hole 2 were Lynda Fournier (Barriere A & W) and Betty Foote (Barriere Timber Mart).  Long putts won the prizes on Hole 3 for Trudy Forsythe (Crystlee’s Hair Design) and Audrey Rilcoe (Country Store Antiques).  There were four KPs on Hole 4 for Donna Salle (Carl’s Market Garden), Ilke Marais (Campbell & Co), Jeannie Webber (EBL Ventures) and Wanda Amos (HUB International while Karen Peterson (Ron Wallace Trucking) was the only KP on Hole 6.  On Hole 5 prizes went to Barb Smith (Estylo Hair Design) for coming closest to the 150 yard marker while Lynda Fournier (Knights Inn) and Darlene Nickull (Pottery by Ramona) won their prizes for long putts.  Karen Peterson continued her winning ways with a great KP on Hole 7 to win the Rainer Custom Cutting certificate.  A considerable number of ladies sent their tee shots into the gully on Hole 7 and were pacified with golf balls courtesy of Barb and Carman Smith.  On Hole 8 Debbie Legaree came closest to the 150 marker to pick up the Station House Restaurant prize.  On Hole 9 Val Alyward won the Blue Jar Coffee Bar & Bistro prize for short drive while Anita Hill picked up the Val Bella Studio prize for long putt.  MJB Lawyer sponsored the putts this week with Trudy Forsythe using the least number and Val Alyward using the most.

Chinook Cove Ladies’ Night will continue for 20 more weeks.  Judging from the laughter I can safely say the ladies have a great time.  Good food, great friends, loads of prizes come together to make a super social outing.

If you are new to the community and don’t have anyone to golf with please give us a call (Debbie - 250-672-9704, Leslie - 250-672-5706 or the golf course - 250-672-0119) and we will get you lined up.

Hope to see you next week!
