Ladies Golf Night at Chinook Cove brings in $5,456 to fight cancer

Tuesday Ladies Golf Night is all about fun. Oh sure, we golf. We hit the ball. We putt. Some folks win prizes. We dine on the great food served up by the clubhouse. The thing that is most important is…we have fun. But once each summer we are serious. Last Tuesday, Aug. 22, was our annual Golf for Cancer fundraiser. Many have dealt with the horrors of cancer – the uncertainty, the pain, the expense, the loss. We set aside one Tuesday night each summer. We collect pledges. We gather prizes.

We remember friends and neighbours and family that we have lost to this insidious disease. And we golf – we laugh – and we enjoy the company around us. The format is a four person Texas Scramble. It doesn’t matter how well you golf. We have prizes for high score, low score, long drives, short drives, KPs, best costumes. As well as golf, we usually play a word game, and we have a prize for that. We have draws, and we have a fantastic supper on the patio. It is impossible to thank everyone involved because I know I would miss a name and feel terrible. But there are many to thank. So THANK YOU to the folks who made prizes; the folks who donated prizes; the folks who made the gift bags after gathering the goodies to go in them; the folks who gathered pledges; the folks who pledged; all our regular sponsors; those who came out to play golf; the baker; the decorator; the management and staff of Chinook Cove Golf and RV and the organizing committee. Our success depended on all these people and we were not disappointed. Sometime next week we will have the pleasure of turning $5,456 over to our local unit of the Canadian Cancer Society. And on their behalf I say “Thank you Barriere”.
