Another week...gone in a flurry. I just don’t know where the year is going to but I hope at some point to catch up. This week we had visitors from Turner Valley - friends forever type visitors. I finally talked Linda, who isn’t a golfer, into coming golfing with me on Ladies Night May 17, and we had a marvelous time. She discovered why we enjoy our Ladies Night so much. And it isn’t always because of the golfing. We eat. We chat. We tell jokes. We tease each other. We laugh. Oh, do we laugh...we laugh a lot.
Linda and I golfed in the morning. We were one of the early groups. Our husbands rode along and enjoyed the delightful day.
What I discovered about being one of the first out on the course is that it doesn’t matter how well you golf, you still get to write your name on the pin placements. So what if your putt is only six inches long. When you are the first out it is the longest putt of the day. Oh sure, someone else will come along and take your name off the pin, but just for that moment you are a WINNER! So the final winners for this week might not include our names, but for just a moment they were there.
Flight 1 (Interior Savings Credit Union) winners were Cindy Leibel (low gross - 45) and Karen Peterson (low net). Flight 2 (Hub International) winners were Ilka Marais (low gross - 50) and Kelly Van Genne (low net). Flight 3 (MKB Lawyers) winners were Jeannie Webber (low gross - 53) and Betty Baillie (low net). Anita Hill scored a 57 to win low gross for Flight 4. Cindy Leibel took home the birdie pot.
Although Linda and I wrote our names on the long putts we didn’t win any. These ladies did - Debbie Rainer (Knight’s Inn), Marion Wallace (Rainer Custom Cutting), Anita Hill (Sam’s Pizza and Barriere A&W), Lynda Fournier (Pottery by Ramona and Station House Restaurant), Brenda Carl (The Blue Jar Coffee Bar & Bistro), and Evelyn Lucas (AG Foods).
Long drives earned prizes for Susan Bondar (Barriere Timber Mart), Brenda Carl (Crystlee’s Hair Design), and Cindy Leibel (Armour Mountain Office Supplies). The KP loot went to Susan Newberry (Carl’s Market Garden), Kelly Van Genne (Campbell & Company), Betty Anne Foote (EBL Ventures), Cindy Leibel (Ron Wallace Trucking), Chris LeCerf (Royal LePage/Westwin Realty), and Irene Beeton (Stamer Logging). Donna Salle won the Val Bella Studio prize for KP in 2 on hole 7 and Rose Seymour won the Barriere Massage prize for most putts (25).
Apparently Deb Rainer and I made the pin placement on Hole 2 too difficult so the prizes were drawn from a hat and went to Marion Wallace (Country Store Antiques) and Evelyn Lucas (Estylo Hair Design).
So there it is. Another week – gone in a flurry. My friend Linda did get to take home a prize. She won two golf balls and tees from Barb and Carman Smith for going in the gully twice. But as I always say “a prize is a prize no matter why you win it”. Sure hope Linda (and her hubbie Bob) come back soon for a visit.
