North Thompson Spartans lose to South Kamloops

Team hit the hard rock of reality when they took on South Kamloops Secondary School

As reported in our last issue, the Clearwater/Barriere Spartans senior boys rugby team started the season off with a convincing 51-3 win over NorKam on April 9.

However, they soon hit the hard rock of reality when they took on South Kamloops Secondary School on Tuesday of last week. The Spartans lost 37-0.

“Our guys played a good game in a super-physical match,” said Gabe Francis, one of the Spartan coaches. “South Kamloops has a couple of provincial level players who were able to capitalize on any small mistakes our boys might have made.”

The North Thompson team matched the SKSS squad physically, Francis felt, but could not compete with the other team’s depth of experience.

South Kamloops has consistently been rated one of the top five Double AA teams in the province for several years.

Last Friday the Spartans travelled to Williams Lake for a game, and this coming Friday teams from Williams Lake will play the juniors and the seniors at Clearwater Secondary School.

Game times will be 12:30 for the juniors and 1:30 for the seniors.

Next week the Spartans will play Okanagan Mission in Kamloops. After that they will take on Kalamalka from Vernon.

Following those games they will know where they stand in the league and who will proceed into playoffs.
