My mother always said “Ladies glow. Men perspire. Horses sweat”. Well, on Tuesday, Aug. 20, we ladies were glowing. The weather was warm and very muggy. As muggy as it was and glowing as much as I was, I was still very happy to not have rain. We had a big crowd – 47 ladies turned out. They must have been thinking that there aren’t many Ladies’ Nights left in the 2019 season. Debbie Rainer and I have already been plotting and planning for the 2020 season. Of course, that is making the assumption that the Ladies will elect us again.

But enough of that. On to the prizes and pots. Brenda Oakland scored our third Eagle of the season. I imagine you are thinking “so what”. My records go back to April of 2009 and between then and September of 2018 we only had one (yes ONE) eagle. This year we have had three. I told the ladies if they keep that up we will have to pass the hat to cover the pot. Other pot winners (no, not that kind of pot) were Evelyn Lucas and Ilke Maris who shared the Birdie Pot and Jessica Thompson who won the Chip In Pot. Ilke’s shot was also a chip-in but you can only win one pot at a time with a single shot. I have attempted to explain this to folks a number of times and I generally only manage to confuse them. I usually end by saying “Trust me. I will see that you get the best prize for your shot”. Somehow the trust me comment doesn’t help to make them trust me.

Here are the Flight low gross and low net winners. Flight One went to Leanna Layton (gross) and Marion Wallace (net). Flight Two was won by Ilke Marais (gross) and Deb Rainer (net). In Flight Three the winners were Sandy LeBourdais (gross) and Jessica Thompson (net). Low gross for Flight Four went to Brenda MacDonald and second low gross went to Anita Hill.

The prize winning drivers were Sandy LeBourdais, Lisa Galanov, Cathy Paul, and Val Aylward (short drive). Deb Legaree won the Accuracy drive. KPs in 2 were picked up by Sandy LeBourdais, Wanda Amos, and Brenda Oakland. KPs in 3 were made by Brenda Oakland, Terry Blaeser, and Evelyn Lucas. KPs were scored by Louise Lodge, Ilke Marais, Leslie Stirling (yes, that’s me), Rose Seymour, Marian Wallace and Deb Rainer. The pretty perfect putters were Leanna Layton, Trudy Forsythe, Sue Paulhus, Emma Allen, Terry Blaeser, Marian Wallace, and Leslie Stirling. Least putts were used by Ilke Marais and the most putts were used by Sue Paulhus.

You will notice that I left out the names of our regular sponsors. This week I am high-lighting the Hole-in-One sponsors who seldom get mentioned. Barriere Auto Parts provides us with a magnificent weed-eater, weed whacker, whatever you want to call it. Alpine Meadow Resorts donates a magnificent stay at the resort at Halamore Lake. Bob Stirling, local artist and my favourite man paints a magnificent watercolour of Chinook Cove Golf course. Thank you to all of them. If the prizes are not claimed by scoring a Hole-in-One they go on to the door prize table on the last night.

That’s it for this week. Can’t believe that we only have three golf nights left. We usually get a good turn-out on our last night (September 10th)and sunset is getting earlier so you might want to book your tee time soon. Remember - it is winter for a long time.
