On course: Ladies golf returns to the greens at Chinook Cove

The end to a quiet boring life finally arrived on Tuesday, Apr. 25

By Leslie Stirling

I know some folks think I live a quiet boring life but Tuesday, Apr. 25, was an exciting day for me – the first Ladies Night of the new golf season.  It is a day that I dream about all winter and it gets me through those cold miserable snowy days.

The weather man must have known how much it means to us because it ended up being a beautiful day with temperatures reaching into the 20s.  Thirty-one ladies turned out and there were hugs and hellos, love and laughter all  around as we greeted friends that we haven’t seen since the fall.

Deb Rainer, our golf captain once again, did a terrific job lining up the sponsors including a number of new ones.  We encourage our golfers to frequent these generous businesses.  I know folks don’t come golfing just for the prizes but it is nice to pick something up at the end of the evening.

And speaking about prizes, here is a list of Tuesday’s gross and net winners:

In Flight One sponsored by Hub International/Chad Belbin the low gross winner was Donna Salle with a score of 45 and low net winner was Louise Lodge with a score of 50.  The Flight Two sponsor was MJB Lawyers with winners Susan Newberry (low gross - 47) and Deb Rainer (low net - 51).

Flight Three winners, Audrey Rilcoe (low gross - 55) and Carol Willox (low net - 56) picked up prizes from Carman and Barb Smith (HM Ranches).

Flight Four which was the fullest flight was sponsored by EBL Ventures.  The low gross winner was Betty Baillie with a score of 62 and Deb Winiski picked up second low gross by retro with a score of 63.  Putt prizes courtesy of Expedia CruiseShipCenters/Kelly Van Genne went to Deb Rainer (least) and Val Aylward (most).  Donna Salle picked up the birdie pot for making a great play on Hole 1.

The remaining multitude of prizes went to: Donna Salle (long drive/Barriere AG Foods), Kelly Van Genne (long drive/Armour Mountain Office Supplies), Doreen Landry (long drive/Barriere A&W), Trish Thompson (long drive/Barriere Massage), Carol Willox (accuracy/Barriere Timber Mart), Donna Salle (long putt/Barriere Motor Inn), Kelly Van Genne (long putt/Gift n’ Gab), Susan Newberry (KP/Ron Wallace Trucking), Carol Willox (KP/Cindy Leibel Westwin Realty), JoAnn Lyle (KP/Stamer Logging), Jeannie Webber (long putt/Hair By Alora), Barb Smith (long putt/High 5 Diner), Deb Rainer (KP/Carl’s Market Garden), Doreen Landry (KP/Campbell & Co.), Leslie Stirling (KP in 2/Mane Street Hair), JoAnn Lyle (long putt/Pottery by Ramona), Deb Legaree (closest to the 150/Rainer Custom Cutting), Wanda Amos (closest to the 150/Sam’s Pizza), Lois McInnis (short drive/Station House Restaurant) and Audrey Rilcoe (long putt/Val Bella Studio).

We are pleased to welcome back our sponsor North Thompson Funeral Services for the Rest in Peace prizes on Hole 7.

So there you have it.  The first “rays” of summer with many more to come before we are through.

The Chinook Cove Golf Ladies Club meets every Tuesday until early September.  Tee times are available all day.  Your first round of the day would count as your Ladies’ Day score.  The only “rule” we encourage is that you must golf with a least one other lady although she doesn’t have to be golfing Ladies’ Day herself.

If you are new to the area and would like to try Ladies Night but don’t have a golfing buddy give us a call and we will match you up with someone.  Call Debbie (250-672-9407), Leslie Stirling (250-672-5706) or Chinook Cove Golf (250-672-0119).  We are looking forward to seeing loads of lovely ladies.
