The Barriere Bruins travelled to 100 Mile on the weekend and split their two games. 100 Mile mercied Barriere in four innings in the first game, and Barriere battled back to win the second game in seven innings. The 100 Mile team will be in Barriere on Saturday, June 24, for two more games. The games are at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

There was big news from Softball BC this past week. The U16 Boys provincials will be in Prince George July 7,8,9, which will be great for all the U16 teams in the Province. Unfortunately, it will mean that Barriere will only have one team in the U14 Provincials as the Clearwater and Kamloops U14 boys that were going to be part of Barriere’s second team will now be going to Prince George with their respective U16 teams. The composition of Barriere’s Provincial team will now be a very difficult decision for the coaching staff.

Softball BC confirmed that Barriere will be sending a U14 boys team to the Western Canadian Championship in North Battlford, Saskatchewan, this August.

The team will be comprised of the best available U14 boys from across British Columbia including Barriere’s own Ty Hartman, Adam Gordon and Garner Ransome. Depending on his availability, Liam Hunt may also join the team.

The 2017 ball season is winding down. The t-ball season finished last week. This will be the last week for U10 practices and non-provincial U14 practices.

Thank you to all the parent volunteers who helped during the season and, thank you to our coaches Steve Lefeuvre, Sandra Realff, Steve Noble and Lauren Tremblay; without your volunteer time minor ball could not exist.

If anyone is interested in coaching next year, please contact Phil Ransome at 250-672-5846, there are several off-season training opportunities.

2018 is a BC Summer Games year for all U16 softball players, the first of the boys’ tryouts will be in Barriere in September/October, and the girls will be in Kelowna.
