The Barriere Secondary School (BSS) grade 8 cross country ski program is well underway and the students are learning some new skills and getting lots of fresh air and physical exercise.
Thus far the lessons have taken place on the school field, and on Barb and Carman Smith’s property. There are also plans to take the students up to the Barriere Forks ski trails for future lessons.
The ski program is a collaborative effort between the North Thompson Rec Society, BSS, parents and donors.
“We really appreciate the dedication from everyone to teaching youth in this community a healthy way to enjoy the outdoors in the winter,” says Rec Society coach Mary MacLennan, “After a ski lesson the students, teacher and volunteer coaches all arrive back at the school very refreshed – tired, but refreshed.”
