Pins, pots and putts for ladies at Chinook Cove Golf

In the words of Glenn Yarborough… “But, baby the rain must fall, baby, the wind must blow, wherever my heart leads me baby, I must go, baby I must go”. And fell it did last Tuesday…a rain so hard that the Star / Journal posted a video of it on Facebook. However, my heart led me to the golf course despite the rain, and twenty-nine other ladies (as crazy about golf as me) also showed up – and we had a terrific time.

Donna Salle had an extraordinary shot that just has to be shared. Donna is really an excellent golfer and I usually ask her advice but I just don’t want to know how she made the shot from the side hill on Hole 9. She swung, hit the ball which went straight….that is straight up in the air and came down hitting her on the back.

This was the week for hitting the green on Hole 4 and 6 so all the KP prizes were won this week so the gross/net prizes were sponsored by Ladies’ Night Golf. Flight 1 winners were Kelly McNabney (low gross with a 38) and Janice Advent (low net with a 40/34). Flight 2 winners were Ilke Marais (low gross with a 48) and Audrey Rilcoe (low net with a 50/34). That cataract surgery must have really helped you, Audrey. How come it didn’t do much for me? Of course now I can see when my ball goes the wrong way as before I had to ask my partners where it went. In Flight 3 low gross winner was Doreen Landry with a 51 and low net winner was Anita Hill with a 55/35. Tied for low gross in Flight 4 with matching scores of 61 were Rose Seymour and Lisa Galanov.

Most of the pots were picked up by perfectly practical players. Kelly McNabney took the Deuce Pot. Janice Advent took the Birdie Pot. Betty Foote, Darlene Nickull and Jessica Thompson split the Chip-In Pot. The Putt People were Leanna Layton with 13 putts (Least) and Doreen Landry with 22 putts (Most). Doreen often complains when she wins the Least Putts but at least she won more prizes today than I did.

We had a mixture of putts, drives, KPs (in 2 or 3) and Rest In Peace. The sheet for writing names on for the Rest in Peace got very wet but the names of Barb Smith and Ilke Marais were still legible. Deb Winiski won the Accuracy drive (Barriere Timber Mart), Longs Putts were won by Cathy Paul (Barriere Motor Inn), Lynda Fournier (T & T Liquidation), Catharine Phillips (Gift ‘n’ Gab) and Anita Hill (Sam’s Pizza). Long Drives were made by Deb Winiski (AG Foods), Lois McInnis (Armour Mountain Office and Munro’s Clothing) and Kelly McNabney (Rainer Custom Cutting). KP prizes were picked up by Deb Legaree (Westin Realty/Cindy Leibel), Trish Thompson (MJB Lawyers), Doreen Landry (Salle Ranch), Rose Seymour (Stamer Logging), Kelly McNabney (Barb and Carman Smith), Deb Rainer (Brian and Brenda Carl) and Lorie Chambers (Campbell & Co.). KPs in 2 were made by Lisa Galanov (EBL Ventures) and Janice Advent (HUB International). KPs in 3 on Hole 1 were won by Kelly McNabney (Station House Restaurant) and Ilke Marais (Thompson Valley Awards).

Well there it is. Another report to send off to the proof-reader. Thought after so many years I would give my column its own name…Pins, Pots and Putts. I usually don’t like to rush into things but after over 10 years I thought it was time to call it something other than the generic moniker of Golf Report. See you at the course.
