The North Thompson Recreation Society would like to remind families of Barriere and the surrounding area to sign up for local summer programs before it is too late! Programs fill up fast, so don’t delay in registering for the following that still have some spaces still available;
• Red Cross Swim Program – Tots to Teens
July 18-22 or July 25-29. $50 includes five days instruction, report cards, badges. Family discounts apply for three or more children. Registration at the NT Volunteer Center in the Barriere Ridge, open Tuesdays through Thursdays 9 a.m to 3 p.m. Call Kathy 250-672-0033 or Tammy 250-672-0121 for information.
Teens are never too old to learn to swim or improve technique. Life guarding and swim instructing make great summer jobs.
• Soccer Quest and Vancouver Whitecaps FC have teamed up to run summer soccer skills camps August 8 – 12 at Barriere Ridge, Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 12 noon for ages 4 to 12 years; 10 a.m. to 12 noon for teens in grade 8 to 12 only.
This is a great opportunity to learn from licensed coaches. Secondary students looking to improve skills before the next school year, or play at the Rep soccer level check out the website listed below.
Thanks to a local subsidy, the regular fee for the course of $140 is reduced to $100, and includes assessment, t-shirt, soccer ball, Gatorade, group photo, and a chance to win Whitecaps FC tickets.
Register online at www.soccerquest.ca click on “Summer camps” then “Barriere Camp”; for grades 8 -12 go to “High Performance” .
Barriere Soccer Quest must have 10 participants registered before August 1st or risk cancellation. There are family discounts available, and if you register before August 1, you can avoid the $15 late fee.
