Barriere Minor Ball

The Barriere Under 12 (U12) Boys team competed in the Softball BC U12 Provincial Championships hosted by Clearwater Minor Ball in Clearwater, this past weekend.

The team was 3-1 in the round robin portion of the tournament qualifying for the playoffs as the third seed.

After a disappointing loss in their first playoff game against the Fleetwood Legends the team played 100 Mile House in an elimination game.   The game went to an extra inning after Ty Hartman stole home, with a delayed steal, to tie the game in Barriere’s last at bat.   In the extra inning Josh Tremblay scored the go ahead run for Barriere on a hit by Adam Gordon and the battery of Mackenzie Ransome and Reid Parlby struck out the 100 Mile side to seal the win.

In the bronze medal game, Barriere played their second elimination game, in a rematch against the Fleetwood Legends.  The team came through with their best game of the tournament, handily defeating Fleetwood.   Liam Hunt led the way playing outstanding defense on third base and providing timely hitting, as he did throughout the tournament.

In the gold medal game, Barriere put up an extraordinary effort in their third elimination game of the day against a dominating Surrey Storm team that finished the round robin 4-0 and was the first seed in the playoffs.  The game was tied 2-2 after three innings, with Mackenzie Ransome dominating from the pitching circle and Pax Gregory leading the team on offence when a very tired Barriere team ran out of gas and Surrey cruised to the gold medal.

All of our kids played very hard, giving it their all – we are very proud of you - congratulations.  MVP’s for the round robin games were Mackenzie Ransome for a dominating pitching performance, Ty Hartman for outstanding pitching and hitting, Levi Kempter for the catch of the tournament in left field, stealing a home run away from a Surrey Storm hitter and Cam Kerslake for spectacular defense at shortstop.

We look forward to next year with seven of our 11 kids returning, and a number of superstar U10 players joining the team.  With a dominating trio of pitchers in Ty Hartman, Georgia Clough and Garner Ransome Barriere will be going for gold in 2015.
