Area resident Al Fortin has been credited with creating and grooming the outdoor ice rink on Airfield Road in Barriere over the past few years.  Fortin, who is a District of Barriere Councillor and also works outside of the community, says he still helps out at the outdoor rink when he can, but due to his busy work schedule the Harris family have taken over the bulk of the work.  They have been keeping the ice smooth, adding water as needed, and most importantly providing a great recreation for area residents.  Some of those using the rink have also helped out from time to time, including using large snow shovels to clear the ice of new snow accumulations. The rink has been getting plenty of usage this winter with the long stretch of cold weather that kept the ice in place.  Thank you to the Harris family and everyone else who has lent a hand to keep the rink in such great condition.
