Young skiers at Peak’s Snow Star Festival

Over 40 years ago, the Nancy Greene Ski League was formed after the 1968 Olympic Champion Nancy Greene inspired hundreds of young people to want to try ski racing.

That passion for ski racing will be front and centre next weekend as over 400 children gather at Sun Peaks Resort for the 9th Annual Rio Tinto Alcan Nancy Greene Husky Snow Star Festival.

The largest festival of its kind in Canada, kids between the ages of five and 11 years old will participate in a variety of skills events. “The festival brings together a whole bunch of kids with a common love of skiing to explore the mountain and improve their skiing skills,” says Johnny Crichton, Program Director with the Sun Peaks Alpine Club. “From bumps, to speed, jumps and powder...there’s a great collection of skills sections set up for the kids.”

Off the slopes, the festival children can grab a photo and autograph with Olympian Nancy Greene, and participate in a kids carnival with face painting, games, clowns and slideshows.
