Are you ready for the North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo at the fairgrounds in Barriere the first weekend of September?

Volunteers are already well underway working and planning for this year’s event, saying they are determined to make it ‘the best fair yet.’

Are you putting plans together regarding what you’d like to enter into the 2023 fair? There is something for everyone, and for all ages, and you’ll find numerous divisions to enter in the fall fair exhibit hall, which is a grand display not to be missed.

This year the exhibit hall is under new management, with some interesting changes expected to take place. Make sure you stop in during the event, check it out and give the organizers your opinion or suggestions.

The annual fall fair Silent Auction fundraiser held in the exhibit hall is already shaping up to have some very good bargains for lucky bidders. Donations of gas cards, handmade quilts, gift cards, travel bags, gift baskets, knitted items, beautiful cutting boards are already on the list of offers with much more yet to come in.

For all the winemakers out there, the fair has a new class for bubbly wines this year. Many excellent wines have been displayed in the past, and this year your entry could be the next winner. Imagine having your name on the RHU Castle Cup for the best bottle of wine in the show.

The Farm and Home Produce and Field Crop Sections in the exhibit hall will also have changes this year. New classes in this section will include a class for eggs other than chicken eggs. Who will take the prize for best duck or turkey eggs? It will also be interesting to see what folks can make out of beeswax, and a brand new award is up for grabs in this section. The grand aggregate entry in sections two and three will win the BC Ground Water Plaque, a new award sponsored by Lisa and Thierry Carriou. A rumour is also circulating that there will be an ostrich egg on display. One ostrich egg is the equivalent of 24 chicken eggs, weighs three pounds, and would take four hours to hard boil.

Gardeners, don’t forget to make sure you participate in the fair as well. This is a grand opportunity to enter vegetables, fruits, and flowers. Show off your green thumb and the impressive results you were able to achieve through dedication and hard work.

The North Thompson Fall Fair is also inviting everyone to their upcoming plant and garden sale on Sunday, May 7, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., at the fairgrounds in Barriere.
