ESS welcomes evacuees with a smile at the Ridge

The ESS Reception Centre in Barriere was opened at the Ridge School on July 10 and has been open every day to July 31. Due to registration numbers slowing, the Reception Centre will now only be open on Mondays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. “During that time we dealt with over 500 evacuees, issuing referrals for food and lodging.,” says ESS supervisor Carol Patton, “We had about 24 volunteers who have worked over 900 hours.

Darfied wind gust launches garage into power line

Joanne Petersen reports her portable garage (15’x25’) was anchored by eight cement blocks at a property in Darfield. However, a storm that blew through the area on July 7, brought with it a “mini tornado that flung the portable garage up and over the power lines in the yard”. You can see in the attached photograph that the part of the structure hanging over the power line is actually the back of the portable garage, which was facing in the opposite direction when it was in place.

Members of the Christian Life Assembly Church in Barriere served up a great lunch on Tuesday, June 20 at their annual community barbecue. Hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, and a nice assortment of sweets for dessert brought smiles to all who attended.
